Voter ID Requirement in Effect
The Voter Identification Requirement is in effect for those casting a ballot in person on Election Day and for those who pick up their absentee voter ballot in person. Please see the Michigan Election and Voter Information from the Department of Sectretary of State for more information, including acceptable forms of identification.
To register to vote, you must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age by election day, and a resident of Michigan and the city or township where you are registering to vote. For more information, please visit the Michigan Secretary of State website, or contact the Township Clerk’s Office.
If you have never voted in Michigan and register by mail, you must appear in person to vote in the first election in which you wish to participate. This requirement does not apply if (1) you personally hand deliver the mail-in registration form to your county, city or township clerk’s office instead of mailing the form (2) you are 60 years of age or more (3) you are disabled or (4) you are eligible to vote under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act.
Absentee Voting Information
Absentee voter ballots are available for all elections. They provide voters with a convenient method for casting a ballot when they are unable to attend the polls on Election Day. As a registered voter, you may obtain an absentee voter ballot if you are:
- age 60 years old or older
- unable to vote without assistance at the polls
- expecting to be out of town on election day
- in jail awaiting arraignment or trial
- unable to attend the polls due to religious reasons
- appointed to work as an election inspector in a precinct outside of your precinct of residence
If you would like to request an absentee ballot application, please contact the Township Clerk’s Office or download the Absent Voter Ballot Application. Submit the completed application to the Township Clerk via regular mail, fax, or email by 2:00pm on the Saturday prior to the election in order for a ballot to be mailed to you.
Permanent Absent Voter List Request
The Township Clerk’s Office maintains a permanent absent voter list, which includes qualified absentee voters who have requested to automatically be sent an absentee ballot application for each election scheduled in Blair Township. Note: election law requires you complete and return an absent voter application for each election in which you would like to vote, even if you are on the permanent absent voter list. If you would like to be added to this list, please contact the Township Clerk’s Office.
Military and Overseas Voters
Members of the military, their families, and overseas citizens can register to vote or request an absentee voter ballot by completing the Federal Post Card Application. Use of this form assists us in making sure these voters receive absentee voting materials in a timely manner. The application is valid for one calendar year.
Blair Township depends on resident election inspectors to successfully conduct every election. These are paid positions.
